Thanksgiving is all about gratitude, good company, and great food—and if you’re like most pet parents, your dog is right there under the table hoping for a bite! At All Dogs Club, we love seeing pups share in the holiday spirit—but not every leftover is safe for canine tummies.
Here’s a quick guide to what’s okay to share (in moderation!) and what’s best left on your plate.
✅ Dog-Approved Thanksgiving Leftovers
1. Turkey (plain and unseasoned) Lean, cooked turkey breast is a great source of protein for dogs. Just make sure it’s free of bones, skin, and seasonings—especially onions, garlic, and butter.
2. Sweet Potatoes Packed with fiber, beta-carotene, and vitamins, sweet potatoes are a healthy treat when served plain or lightly mashed. Avoid marshmallows, butter, and brown sugar toppings.
3. Green Beans A light, crunchy snack that’s low in calories and high in nutrients. Skip the casserole—dogs don’t need the creamy soup or fried onions.
4. Pumpkin Pure, cooked pumpkin (not pie filling!) can aid digestion and is a delicious seasonal snack.
5. Carrots & Apples Both make crisp, naturally sweet snacks for pups. Slice apples to remove the core and seeds, which can be harmful.
🚫 Thanksgiving Foods to Avoid
❌ Turkey Bones & Skin – They can splinter or cause digestive upset.
❌ Stuffing & Gravy – Usually loaded with onions, garlic, and butter—dangerous for dogs.
❌ Mashed Potatoes – Delicious for us, but too much butter, cream, and salt for pups.
❌ Desserts – Especially anything containing chocolate, xylitol, or raisins.
❌ Alcohol & Fatty Foods – Even small amounts can be toxic to dogs.
Keep It Simple
If you want your pup to share in the Thanksgiving feast, set aside a little plate of plain, pup-safe foods before the seasoning and sauces go on. A few bites of lean turkey, a spoonful of sweet potato, and some fresh veggies make for a tail-wagging treat!
