Rainy days can be a bummer for both humans and their furry companions. That's where All Dogs Club comes in! When the weather keeps us indoors, we keep your dog engaged, happy, and active. Can't make it to the club? Here are some other ways to keep your pup occupied and happy when the weather isn't great.
1. Interactive Puzzle Toys and Treat Games
Dogs love to use their brains, and puzzle toys are a fantastic way to keep them entertained. Invest in interactive toys that dispense treats when solved or try a DIY version by hiding treats in a muffin tin under tennis balls. Snuffle mats are also a great option to stimulate their natural foraging instincts.
2. Indoor Obstacle Course
Transform your living room into a mini agility course using household items! Use cushions, chairs, and tunnels (or blankets draped over furniture) to create a fun challenge for your pup. Guide them through the course using treats or their favorite toys.
3. Hide-and-Seek
This classic game is not just for kids! Hide in different areas of your home and call your dog’s name. When they find you, reward them with praise or treats. You can also hide their favorite toy or treat and encourage them to sniff it out.
4. Training and Trick Sessions
A rainy day is a perfect opportunity to work on training or teach your dog new tricks. Reinforce basic commands like sit, stay, and come, or try something new like “spin,” “high five,” or “roll over.” Positive reinforcement with treats and praise makes learning fun!
5. DIY Indoor Fetch or Tug-of-War
If space allows, play a modified game of fetch down a hallway or in a safe area using a soft toy. Tug-of-war is another fantastic way to keep your pup engaged while giving them a good workout.
6. Spa and Grooming Time
Turn a rainy day into a spa day! Brush your dog’s coat, trim their nails, and give them a relaxing massage. If they enjoy baths, a warm rinse can be a fun and calming experience.
7. Nose Work Games
Dogs love to use their sense of smell. Hide treats around the house and let them sniff them out. This provides both mental stimulation and physical activity.
8. Playdates with Doggy Friends
If you have friends or family with dogs, arrange an indoor playdate. Set up a safe, enclosed space where the dogs can socialize and play together.
